This is a book I didn’t know I needed to read.
I picked this up on a whim because it fit the “a title with a color in it” category in by reading challenge, but didn’t really know much about it. This is a based on the true story of a family that were living as Germans in communist Russian/Ukraine during Stalin’s dictatorship. During WW2, with Russia and Germany fighting, they became refugees and then prisoners of war given their German heritage.
This is an amazing story of resilience, faith and hardship. It is heart wrenching what the family went through on their journey from Russia back to Germany. They returned to a country that was fighting for ideals they did not believe in or agree with. The story focuses on how they kept moving onward relying on faith, a dream and being open to opportunities. It focused on keeping your mind open and being grateful to allow you to see the opportunities that arise. It was a gripping read that I had a hard time putting down. This book helped me through a really hard time in my life. I needed to have faith, be open to see and accept opportunities, and keep moving ahead. This is a must read!
